A recent survey of IT Vendors and IT experts in organisations has found that nearly 91 percent of respondants were currently using virtulisation in their production environments. With only 2 percent that had no plans on using virtualisation. Could this be a sign that Cloud computing is stating to be adopted by corperate members of organisations? The survey was conducted at the 2010 The Experts Conference (TEC) in late April by Quest Software. Quest has used the results of this survey to make predictions on how companies with develop and employ virtualisation and cloud computing solutions in 2011. One of these notable predictions is that more IT decisions will be made from outside the IT department using outsourcing of a managed services provider (MSP) like Microsolve.VMWare a core service that Microsolve uses for our clients was shown to be the dominant market leader in server virtualisation amoung IT experts and vendors. Also Citrix XenServer being already used by 23 percent of IT organisations and Vendors to deploy virtual desktops to their users. It is interesting to note that the driving factor for change to cloud computing services is cost and risk reduction. Although while the majority of organisations consider their businesses spending to be "Stable, but tightly controlled" or "Making investments in Targeted Areas". This predicts that many organisations have shugged off the Economic down turn and are looking to save money by moving to a cloud solution. Risk reduction is a still a high factor in the change in attitude whith respondants citing enhanced service levels, higher quality and greater predicability of costs being factors in this risk management.
