Windows XP Support Winds Up

Since its release in Mid to late 2001 Windows XP has become one of the most widely used Operating Systems in the world, from Multi-user large scale organisations down to the home PC user. Even as of last June Win XP still had a 54% market Share. However on July 13 2010 Microsoft ceased Support for Windows XP Service Pack 2. This comes after Microsoft moved Mainstream Support of Win XP to the Extended Support phase in April 2009. During the Extended Support Phase, Microsoft continue to provide security updates every month for Windows XP; however, free technical support, warranty claims and design changes are no longer being offered.
Currently support for Windows XP Service Pack 3 will continue in accordance with Microsoft's posted timetable until April 2014, where all support for Windows XP OS will be terminated.

Why is this happening? and What does it mean for businesses running Windows XP? Well its been almost a year now since Windows 7 was released and started appearing in many retail outlets. Generally Microsoft will only keep support for its current version and its previous OS, this being Windows Vista at the moment. But due to negative press and a general dislike of the Windows Vista many organisations never adopted the new OS and kept with Win XP or their current systems. It was because of this that Microsoft had made an exception to the support lifecycle for Win XP and extended it.
For those people and organisations still using Win XP it means that they will need to start thinking about upgrading their operating systems to either Vista or Windows 7. If upgrading all your businesses operating systems seems like a daunting task, why not call Microsolve on 1300 792 492 and see what solutions we can put in place.
