Wireless CoverageMicrosolve is currently providing an enterprise level wireless coverage at multiple sites for Warrigal Care Group. This seamless coverage provides complete wireless access to 3 large aged care facilities, providing strong and reliable access to users on VoIP handsets, laptops and PDAs. The equipment used to provide this excellent service is provided by Cisco, using 4400 Series wireless LAN controllers to control 19 - 24 access points at each site. The Cisco wireless LAN controllers are responsible for system wide wireless LAN functions, such as security policies, intrusion prevention, RF management, quality of service, and mobility. They work in conjunction with Cisco Access Points and the Cisco Wireless Control System to support business-critical wireless applications. From voice and data services to location tracking, Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers provide the control, scalability, security, and reliability that Microsolve needs to build secure, enterprise-scale wireless networks-from branch offices to large aged care facilities. These controllers can handle up to 50 access points and 600 users per site, which allows Warrigal Care Group to plan for growth, be it physical extensions to the site or a growth in staff. The Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers were smoothly integrated into the existing enterprise networks at each of the sites. They communicate with Controller-based Access Points over any Layer 2 (Ethernet) or Layer 3 (IP) infrastructure using the Lightweight Access Point Protocol. These devices support automation of numerous WLAN configuration and management functions across all enterprise locations. The services provides seamless coverage throughout the sites, providing users with a large access area. This is essential as the wireless VoIP handsets are critical to the busy staff providing care to the elderly. As well as providing management, the flexibility to move their devices around from office to office within the sites, with out having to disconnect from the network. "The wireless service allows our nursing staff to use wireless VOIP WiFi phones enabling them to be contactable when away from the nurses station. We have also been able to recently implement wireless thin client laptops that allow staff to do bedside assessments and resident documentation from anywhere within the facility. The wireless service also allows other staff who are mobile with regular laptops and other wireless devices, to connect to the network at any facility." - Suzanne Dobson, Information Services Officer, Warrigal Care Group.
